Yes, true I feel the same. For personality assessment, intelligence testing is extremely important but for other disorders a clinician must have a confidence in his skills, interviews/probing are more helpful in these cases for diagnosis

For some disorders like intellectual disability, psychological tests are extremely important (and I would argue they are essential when possible to administer).
