Mental disorderd and trauma

I tend to believe that all mental health conditions have roots in trauma. What is your perspective on this statement? What can actually happen in the brain to cause the expansion of a mental illness?

I don't think so, other factors are in play too like hereditary, Substance abuse, infections and some brain defects can cause mental illness.

Sometimes even poverty leads to mental illness.

Yes. I agree with Ayesha on this. Mental disorders can occur due to variety of reasons.

Of course trauma can be one of the possible causes but that's not always the case.

Most mental illnesses don’t have a single cause. Instead they have a variety of causes, called risk factors.

Even though there are many risk factors, here are a few of them:

Genetics
Environment.
Childhood trauma
Stressful events
Negative thoughts
Unhealthy habits
Drugs and alcohol
Brain chemistry
