Because there is currently a disconnect between theory and practice, we need a candid discussion about what deterrence is and how it is operationalized in contemporary conflicts.
I personally considered deterrence as putting in actions or using examples to try and stop people doing a certain thing. For example, how some councils have started putting in sloping benches to prevent the homeless sleeping on them (something I adamantly disagree with though).
This is an interesting discussion though as I've never thought about how people could view the concept of deterrence differently.
