I personally grew up watching shows such as: Bones, Monk, Criminal Minds and many more. This massively sparked my interest in forensic science and psychology. However, do you think that the unrealistic depictions sometimes do more to damage these subjects than they do to encourage people to study them? Do you think that psychological profiles are as accurate as they seem and are reliable in criminal cases?

First let me say you have great taste. I love Spencer Reid, legend. Criminal Minds I loved.
In all of these shows there is one crucial thing missing about forensic psychology...the tedious bits. It's not surprising really, no one watches a show to watch a realistic depiction of any job. No one wants to see a forensic psychologist in their office filling out paperwork which is a huge part of the job, or even suppling questionnaires and so on.
These are great shows, but often there is more certainty about a suspect than in real life. As long as one keeps in mind what TV is about, and what im important to a producer is the creation of entertainment that sustains viewing figures. Truth is somewhat secondary, though TV shows that enthral us most tend to at least attempt some credibility.
