Do Forensic Investigators use Graphology to determine the personality traits of an individual?
Generally, this sort of technique is on the decrease. There are two types of graphology - one based on personality assessment which is dying out. And the forensic handwriting analysis which looks at the writing and assesses whether a sample matches that given by a suspect.
The original graphology was based more on pseudoscience with Barnum statements typically being used. Generalised statements more akin to astrological or tarot readings.
An example of a barnum statement (more examples can be found in the links provided) :
"Something that you have been waiting for will happen shortly, and you will feel more confident."
Barnum statements have been used extensively by mentalists and magicians such as Ian Rowland and Derren Brown.
Thank you for your answer Daniel. We studied about the Barnum Effect this year at college and I find it really interesting how it influences so many people to read daily horoscope and truly believe in it's accuracy. 😁
Hi Nataljia, it is amazing how vague statements can appear so convincing. I bought a couple of books by Ian Rowland one of which was on cold reading and it uses some of these techniques. Makes for great reading 👍👍😁
Barnum statements are incredible and it's fun to come up with your own.
Forensic investigators use handwriting pattern/technology to determine personality traits of an individual. In different agencies use graphology for checking application for jobs, recruitment procedure, compatibility for marriage, career guidance, motivates different employees and child behavior and development.
This article explains a lot about. Thank you so much for your answer Jonathan! 😇
