What is a superego?
The superego is the ethical component of the personality that provides the ego with moral guidelines. A person's conscience is formed by the superego's criticisms, prohibitions, and inhibitions, while one's idealized self-image, or "ego ideal," is formed by the superego's positive aspirations and ideals. Sigmund Freud was a Sigmund Freud.
If the ego gives in to id demands, the superego may use guilt to make you feel bad. The superego, on the other hand, may make you feel good about yourself if the ego chooses to suppress the idemands.
