What are some ethical issues you have faced as a forensic psychologist?
That is easily an entire book. We actually have a ethical code of conduct as well as forensic psychology specialty guidelines to guide us.
Here are links to each: https://www.apa.org/ethics/code
Ethical issues which frequently come up regard issues like confidentiality, in what circumstances information should be disclosed or included in a report, release of test data (this has particularly frustrated some attorneys in cases I have been involved in), and unethical practices by other psychologists. Regarding the last, I have seen evaluations by other psychologists in which they used outdated tests, misinterpreted psychological tests, or made a variety of errors. What I should do in response is itself an ethical and quite difficult dilemma in some cases. Psychologists are sometimes asked to do things which may not be in keeping with various ethical guidelines, codes of conduct, laws, hospital policies, etc. In these circumstances, navigating those requests can require a great deal of caution, documentation, consultation, and research!
