Is a cognitive interview genuinely beneficial in a forensic investigation?
I managed to find a meta-analysis and review of the last 25 years of Cognitive Interview (CI) studies.
Trawling through to the results shows the following:
There is a large demonstrative increase in the amount of correct recall from individuals
With children the meta-analysis showed smaller effect in both correct detail giving and incorrect details.
Most of the studies have been artificial in nature and thus one needs to compensate and account for ecological validity.
Simplypsychology report that a 46% increase in recall was acheived so amazingly effective.
Either way the CI was pretty good but the Enhanced cognitive interviews show even greater results.

The cognitive interview leads to better memory for events, with witnesses able to recall more relevant information compared with a traditional interview method. So, I think it is beneficial in foremsic psychology
